Corvette Car Covers: Chevrolet Corvette Convertible 2020 Makes Its World Debut

Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible will be available in Mexico during the second quarter of 2020. More equipment information, versions and price will be announced at a close date its launch.

It is the first Corvette Convertible rigid roof self-retracting. Driving outdoors has always been part of the Chevrolet Corvette heritage. In fact, in Corvette’s debut in 1953, it was only available as a convertible. Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible 2020 is based on that heritage and is positioned as the first rigid roof and central engine convertible in Corvette’s history. As it is mostly preferred for traveling an important aspect is its protection, corvette car covers are used to protect it from weather conditions, protect its finish and paint from dirt and dust. Corvette car covers are the most important accessory to protect it because you invested your money in buying a corvette and now you need to protect it from all the elements it will face.

“We got everyone’s attention when we introduced the first Chevrolet Corvette with a central motor a few months ago and now we raise the standard with the first convertible Corvette with a rigid roof,” said Brian Sweeney, Vice President of Chevrolet in the United States. “The convertible will be priced at only $ 7,500 USD more than the Stingray 1LT coupe.”

Production of the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray 2020 coupe will begin at the end of 2019 at the GM Assembly Plant in Bowling Green and the convertible at the end of the first quarter of 2020.

THE FIRST CONVERTIBLE

Chevrolet Corvette Stingray 2020 with central engine was originally designed as a convertible. This version maintains the dominant tunnel structure and the use of high integrity castings found in the coupé version.

The engineering team designed the rigid roof to be stored without problems in the body, maintaining the impressive ability of Stingray to store two sets of golf clubs in the trunk, even with the roof down. The convertible also maintains the front storage compartment of the coupé, where it fits an aerial spec hand luggage and a laptop bag.

The rigid roof provides a quieter cabin, increases safety and presents a cleaner look compared to previous soft roof designs.

“Our goal from the start was to make sure that customers did not have to sacrifice any functionality, performance or comfort during the selection of the hardtop convertible,” said Josh Holder, Engineering Manager of the Corvette Program. “We managed to maintain the same design as the coupe, as well as the exceptional storage capacity and track performance.”

INSPIRED IN COMBAT AIRCRAFT

Like the coupe, the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray convertible design was inspired by fighter jets. The rigid roof has aerodynamic gondola-like shapes, influenced by the housing used for jet engines. The gondolas, which were also used as inspiration in Chevrolet Engineering Research Vehicles (CERV) I and II, as well as in the SS and SR2 concept Corvettes, help reduce air recirculation in the cabin and provide a remarkably exotic profile with the roof up or down. The rigid retractable roof also provides a rear window with electric adjustment and a central engine cooling fan.

The two-piece roof can be activated at speeds of up to 48 km / h and retract in just 16 seconds. It is powered by six electric motors –primicia in a Corvette– and uses encoders for precise control.

To increase reliability switching to electric motors from hydraulic systems is preferred. The roof of the body color is standard, while the gondolas and the roof with Carbon Flash metallic paint are optional.

Special attention was paid to ensure that the engine could breathe when stored under the awning cover. The upper part of sheet molded composite material is stored in a compartment made of lightweight composite panels and thermal shields to control engine heat.

It has a glass dividing window in the middle of the vehicle that can be adjusted with the roof in place or open. The glass was optimized to reduce air recirculation and wind noise in the cabin to make it quieter. The roof system design, combined with the same rear wing used in the Z51 performance package of the Stingray coupe, results in an identical drag between the coupe and the convertible with the roof on.

Engineers modified the convertible chassis, with springs and dampers specifically adjusted to provide almost the same performance as the coupe.
