Some Frequently Asked Questions about 10.5 Tog Duvet

Duvets determine the quality of sleep as a significant contributor to bedding. They are heavy enough to keep the user cozy all night and light enough to allow him/her to sleep without feeling suffocated. How warm you are likely to feel under them greatly depends on the togs value. Tog rating is the indication of warmth and thermal insulation of the duvet. On tog, scale values vary from 1 to 15, where one indicates the lowest or coldest and 15 indicates the highest or the warmest duvets. Based on the rating, duvets are classified as;

Summer, spring/autumn, and winter with 4.5 to 7.5, 7.5 to 10.5, and 10.5 to 13.5 togs. 10.5 tog duvet can be used throughout the year and is probably the most widely used one.   It is warm and cosy enough to use for most times of the year, which is why you are likely to see it everywhere in the market. In this article, we’ve rounded up some of the most frequently asked questions about 10.5 tog duvet and answered them precisely. Keep on reading to find out if you are looking for an answer to an unanswered question.

What Is The Best Time To Use A 10.5 Tog Duvet?

They are suitable for both spring and autumn use but can be used in the winter as well, provided that your house has insulated walls or have a heating system installed in it. The best time of the year to use them is the fall season in case you don’t have thermally insulated walls or a temperature maintenance system.

Can We Use Them Throughout The Year?

This is one of the most frequently asked questions, and if you have a similar question in mind, the answer is yes we can use 10.5 to duvet throughout the year. They are moderately warm and perfectly suitable for tropical areas because their winters are not so cold. But summers are warm, in the summer they can be used with a cooling system on. And if you are a sweaty or hot sleeper, we will recommend you to avoid using them and go for a lower tog value between 4.5 to 7.5.  It is worthy to note that the tog value has nothing to do with the weight and thickness of duvet. A heavy duvet does not guarantee warmth similarly a lightweight one does not mean being cold & less thermally insulated duvet.

What Is The Best Filling Material For Them?

Generally, two types of materials are used for making duvet inserts, natural and synthetic. Natural fillings include silk, down, and feathers, whereas synthetic fillings include hollow fibre, microfiber, and polyester.

For a 10.5 tog duvet, you should either choose the premium quality natural material or microfiber only. Down and silk are the highest quality materials; they are soft, smooth, breathable, and tend to last longer. Moreover, they are light in weight and easy to maintain. Silk has proven benefits for skin and hair, but down is not suitable for those suffering from allergies and asthmatic issues. They are also very expensive and not readily available.

When it comes to the best synthetic material for inserts, microfibers stand out. They offer the same properties as that of down but excel in their hypoallergenic properties. They are considered as a cheap and affordable alternative of luxurious silk and down duvets as well.

When Often Should You Change Them?

Duvets are often bulky and are not machine washable. Therefore many of us ignore washing and even replacing them for years. But they should be washed twice or thrice a year & if you don’t have enough time for cleaning them, replace them each year.

Another reason for their replacement can be in case you have accidentally bought the wrong tog rating. Sometimes, if you buy online, you don’t get the right product & need a replacement.

Also, if your duvet is worn out and showing signs of lint and limping, they need an immediate replacement. The springiness and fluffiness are over lost over time, no matter how expensive your topper is. Generally, a topper needs to be replaced every five years.
